AT-RISK CHILDREN

“Let the little children come to me.”

Mark 10:14

Globally, an estimated 1.2 billion children under the age of 18 live “at-risk.” At-risk children lack basic necessities like food, clothing, shelter, parental support, education, healthcare, and safety needed for normal child development. Many live in danger of exploitation, with little hope of reaching their God-given potential.

10/40 Connections focuses on four types of at-risk children among unreached people groups:

  1. Children in Poverty – Lack of food, education, and choices produce a downward spiral of hopelessness. Poverty is the root cause of why many children end up the victims of child labor, sexual exploitation, or recruited into terrorist rings.
  2. The Vulnerable Girl-Child – From womb to tomb, compared to boys females face unequaled vulnerabilities. Gender selective abortion has led to millions of missing girls. The birth of females often causes mourning, rather than celebration. Girls endure the majority of abuse at every age.
  3. Children with Disabilities – Many with disabilities live marginalized, isolated lives. Their family may live with shame. At times, this shame results in child abandonment or “hiding” a child indoors.
  4. The Pre-born Child – Globally, 40-50 million babies lose their lives to abortion annually. The womb remains a dangerous place for many children who need God’s people to speak up for them.

How is Working with Children Strategic?

Did you know that a child’s worldview develops most between 4-14 years of age? Currently, 1.8 billion children reside in the “4-14 Window.” The majority of these kids live in the 10/40 Window! 10/40 Connections believes God wants his Church to create avenues that reach into children’s lives as their worldview forms.

By developing strategies that meet kids’ needs, we reach out to their parents simultaneously in order to bless the entire family.
