“The spirit of Christ is the spirit of missions. The nearer we get to Him, the more intensely missionary we become.”
Henry Martyn, missionary to India and Persia
I stood on a rooftop in South Asia and looked into the nighttime darkness. It reminded me of the dreadful spiritual darkness that flooded this land. I prayed and told Jesus that the spiritual darkness I felt was like a hot knife twisting in my heart. I stood in silence and heard the Lord speak in my heart, “Leslie, what you feel in your heart is but a scratch of what I feel in my heart for these people.” I stood there stunned, thinking about the pain and the hope that Jesus felt for the lost people who surrounded me. Then, God asked me a question, “Leslie, will you share the burden with me?”
At that moment I realized that the Creator God had asked me a special question – to care about His concerns, to be His friend. All my life I had shared my burdens with Him, but here, God asked me to share His burden.
God has a strategy for reaching the world. It includes you and me – simple people who love God and want to make him known. What kind of burden are you carrying?
10/40 Connections offers both short-term and longer-term opportunities.
Short-Term Trips: 2-6 week trips that focus on contextual ministry within community. These trips build into the on-going ministry of 10/40 Connections on the field with a priority to facilitate participants into more missional living once they return home.
Longer-term Service: Nexus, our two-year overseas service program will launch in 2017. It will provide an opportunity for cross-cultural workers to engage the least reached while simultaneously mobilizing believers.
Jesus said, "Pray the Lord to send out laborers, for the harvest is plentiful, but he workers are few." That is the mission of 10/40 Connections – to follow the example of Jesus by connecting the body of Christ, equipping believers, and engaging the least reached.
